OVERVIEW

• Title: Programme Manager, International Programme on AI Evaluation: Capabilities & Safety

• Reports to: Strategy Lead and the Academic Directors.

• Dates: As soon as possible, until the end of July 2027.

• Time commitment: Part-time, 0.7 FTE or 28 hours per week. .

• Salary: €48,000 gross over a 10-month contract, around €4,800 a month

• Location: Fully remote. We'd prefer you in or near a European time zone, given the faculty, partner and cohort schedule.

• Employment: Hired through BERI, our fiscal sponsor, and open to candidates anywhere. You need the right to work in the country where you live. We employ US-based staff directly and hire internationally through an employer of record.

• Depending on additional funding, we’d look to increase the role to full-time (hours and pay), and keep you for a third edition.

INTRODUCTION

About the programme: AI is moving faster than our ability to understand and evaluate its capabilities and risks. Right now, governments, companies, and researchers don’t have a shared language or tools to make sure these systems are safe, reliable, and aligned with human values. The International Programme on AI Evaluation: Capabilities & Safety is here to close that gap. We are creating a new academic discipline and preparing the next generation of specialists with the technical and policy expertise needed to test, monitor, and guide the safe development of AI.

ValgrAI (Valencian Graduate School and Research Network of Artificial Intelligence) in Valencia hosts it and awards the diploma. BERI (Berkeley Existential Risk Initiative) handles operations and fiscal sponsorship. Coefficient Giving funds it, giving every participant a full scholarship.

This edition: You’ll inherit a working plan and be responsible for running the second edition better than the first, while supporting the programme’s transition towards a formal MSc accreditation.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

Student Recruitment & Selection

• Outreach to technical and policy audiences worldwide. Run the application pipeline including communication, reviews, interviews, and offers, in coordination with the Academic Directors and Strategic Lead.

Academic Coordination & Programme Delivery

• Agree the year's key dates with the Academic Directors and Module Leaders; when each module runs, when materials are due, when assignments open and close, and keep everyone to them.

• Schedule and coordinate all live and pre-recorded sessions across twelve modules, matched to different faculty time zones

• Onboard the faculty and support them through the programme. Chase slides and readings, answer their questions, make it easy for them to teach well.

• Recruit the teaching assistants and capstone mentors, then brief them so they know what's expected.

• Run the learning platform, together with the ValgrAI team: module content, user accounts and access, session links and settings, recording uploads

• Be in the room for live sessions: host the Zoom, run polls and breakouts, sort out access problems, etc. They usually fall on a Tuesday or Thursday, morning or afternoon European time.

• Keep key documents up to date, such as the student handbook, the mentor and TA guides, and assessment briefs.

• Run assessments in coordination with each module’s faculty and Teaching Assistants, track submissions, keep grading on schedule.

• Run the capstone cycle: topic proposals, team formation, mentor matching, milestones, presentation scheduling, and collecting the final reports.

In-Person Week

• If we secure additional funding for this second edition, we'd run an in-person week in Valencia around March 2027 for the hands-on courses and capstone presentations. We'd also look to take this role to full-time (hours and pay) to cover the planning in the months before and the week itself, and we'd agree the details with you at the time.

Community Experience

• Act as the main point of contact for participants, faculty, and partners, providing updates and responding to questions.

• Run the Slack, host a few social sessions, and build the cohort into a community. Notice when someone goes quiet and call them. Run one-to-one check-ins mid-programme and turn what you hear into changes.

Partners

• ValgrAI on logistics, diplomas and the institutional side. BERI on budgets, contracts and payments. Run the regular meetings with the Academic Directors and partners; set the agenda, drive the decisions, track who's doing what.

Communications & Outreach

• Maintain website and social media content and support the programme’s public communications, including promoting the Open Seminar Series (one public talk a week)

• Support the Strategy Lead on funder reporting, sponsor engagement and institutional partnerships

Programme Quality & Development

• Collect and analyse feedback from students, faculty and partners, and translate it into concrete improvements

• Support planning and documentation for the programme’s transition towards MSc accreditation

ABOUT YOU 

This role has two distinct categories of requirements.

Foundational qualities are what we need you to bring from day one. These are central to success in this role and difficult to develop on the job:

• Excellent written and spoken English

• Programme management experience, preferably in higher education and/or international and multicultural contexts.

• Stakeholder and calendar management across time zones. A track record of holding deadlines with people who don't report to you.

• Independence. You take initiative, solve problems, adapt and drive projects forward with minimal supervision.

• Community experience. You are comfortable being the person people come to ask questions, running the behind the scenes, making people feel looked after, noticing the small things.

• Some familiarity with AI to follow conversations with faculty.

Nice to have, or quick to pick up. If you have some of these, apply anyway:

• Familiarity with the AI evaluation, safety or governance landscape

• Ideally someone with working proficiency in Spanish, if we do the in-person week in Valencia
