OVERVIEW

• Title: Programme Manager, International Programme on AI Evaluation: Capabilities & Safety

• Reports to: Strategy Lead, working in close partnership with the Steering Academic Director and the Academic Directors.

• Time commitment: Part-time, 0.7 FTE — 28 hours per week, with flexibility over how they're scheduled. There is the possibility of increased hours subject to additional funding.

• Employment: Open to candidates anywhere. You need the right to work in the country where you live. We employ US-based staff directly and hire internationally through an employer of record.

• Location: Fully remote. Candidates based in or near European time zones are strongly preferred, given the faculty, partner and cohort schedule.

• Dates: Start date in October 2026 through 31 July 2027 (10 months)

• Salary: Full-time equivalent salary of €65,000. At 0.7 FTE over a 10-month contract, the actual gross salary is approximately €38,700.

INTRODUCTION

About the programme: The International Programme – AI Evaluation: Capabilities & Safety is a five-month hybrid-delivery course designed to address the global shortage of talent in AI evaluation and safety. The programme bridges technical and policy expertise, connects participants to leading government and industry partners, and establishes AI evaluation as a formal academic discipline. With an international scope, the programme trains a select cohort of top students, preparing them to become leading specialists equipped to meet the urgent challenges of AI evaluation that ensures effective and safe deployment of AI. The programme is hosted by ValgrAI (Valencian Graduate School and Research Network of Artificial Intelligence), which awards the Expert Diploma; operations and fiscal sponsorship are provided by BERI (Berkeley Existential Risk Initiative); and the programme is funded by Coefficient Giving.

This edition: The inaugural 2026 edition delivered twelve modules with a faculty of more than 45 contributors from academia, frontier labs, AI Safety Institutes and evaluation organisations, culminating in a week-long in-person capstone in Valencia. This is the second edition. Impact: You'll sit at the center of a small, high-trust team building AI evaluation into a recognised academic discipline — working alongside faculty from frontier labs, AI Safety Institutes and leading universities, and training the specialists the field urgently needs. You'll also help lay the groundwork for the programme's long-term home at ValgrAI, including its transition towards MSc accreditation.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

Academic Coordination

• Work with the Academic Directors and Module Leaders to set and monitor programme milestones, module deadlines and materials submission dates

• Own the programme calendar and faculty tracker: schedule all live and pre-recorded sessions across modules, faculty availability and time zones

• Foster strong working relationships with faculty, running onboarding and providing continued support throughout the programme

• Coordinate the development and timely delivery of syllabi, readings, slides, assignments and rubrics in collaboration with faculty

• Run assessment operations end to end: brief and support Module Leaders and Teaching Assistants, track submissions and grading turnaround, maintain the gradebook, and prepare final transcripts for diploma issuance

• Coordinate the capstone cycle: topic proposals, team formation, mentor matching and briefing, milestone tracking, presentation scheduling and final report collection

Programme Delivery

• Manage scheduling and coordination of all teaching activities and events across the online and in-person phases

• Own the learning management system: course structure, module content and resources, user accounts and access, session links and settings, recording uploads, and first-line support for students and faculty

• Oversee technical set-up and troubleshooting for hybrid and online learning environments

• Monitor and resolve issues impacting programme delivery in real time

• Be on site in Valencia, Spain for the in-person Capstone Week in May 2027, acting as the programme’s operational lead alongside the host institution

Student Experience & Community

• Manage all communications with students throughout the programme, from admission through to completion

• Build and sustain cohort community: onboarding, discussion channels, informal sessions and peer connection across time zones and disciplines

• Serve as the first point of contact for student questions, workload concerns and individual circumstances, escalating where appropriate

• Maintain and develop the alumni network from the inaugural cohort, and connect participants to onward opportunities in AI Safety Institutes, policy bodies and research organisations

Student Recruitment & Selection

• Implement and improve the student recruitment strategy, including targeted outreach and advertising to technical and policy audiences worldwide

• Manage the application pipeline end to end, including applicant communications and offers

• Shortlist prospective students, conduct interviews and holistic reviews using transparent and equitable selection criteria, in coordination with the Academic Directors and Strategic Lead
  

Logistics & Operations

• Coordinate with ValgrAI, our host institution and local partner, on visas, accommodation, catering, venues, diplomas and on-the-ground support

• Coordinate with BERI, our operations partner, on budget tracking, expense reporting, faculty and contractor agreements, and payments

Communications & Outreach

• Send and manage invitations to speakers, faculty and partners

• Act as day-to-day liaison to faculty, partners and stakeholders, providing timeline updates and responding to enquiries

• Manage all communications with students throughout the programme

• Maintain website and social media content and support the programme’s public communications

• Support the Strategy Lead on funder reporting, sponsor engagement and institutional partnerships

Programme Quality & Development

• Run the monitoring and evaluation cycle: collect and analyse feedback from students, faculty and partners, and translate it into concrete changes to the next edition

• Implement the improvements identified in the inaugural edition and track whether they worked

• Document processes, best practices and lessons learned so the programme becomes progressively less dependent on any one person

• Support planning and documentation for the programme’s transition towards MSc accreditation, and for the progressive anchoring of the programme at ValgrAI

ABOUT YOU 

This role has two distinct categories of requirements.

Foundational qualities are what we need you to bring from day one. These are central to success in this role and difficult to develop on the job:

• Excellent written and spoken English.

• Programme management experience, preferably in higher education and/or international and multicultural contexts.

• Calendar and stakeholder management under no formal authority. Demonstrated ability to run a complex calendar with many external contributors and hold deadlines without formal authority over the people who have to meet them.

• Strong organisational and communication skills, and comfort working remotely and asynchronously across a wide range of time zones.

• Problem-solving and adaptability in an evolving programme environment.

• Familiarity with AI concepts and applications.

Preferred skills that you'll need to either bring into the role or be quick to upskill on in your first weeks to months. We realize that very few candidates will bring this entire set on day one, but if you're starting with even some of these, we strongly encourage you to apply:
